Avoid Scams

I have noticed many web directories requesting hundreds of dollars for a link on their site. There are numerous search engine optimizers who want $500 in exchange for "getting your site at the top of Google." The good optimizers I know charge that much for an hour of work. Don't fall for SEO scams. Getting ripped off for $1000 of your hard-earned money is a terrible experience for any webmaster especially when better results could be produced with half of your time.

There are plenty of legitimate webmaster services that will make you money. Just make sure that their sales copy isn't what makes you buy.

If you try to take the easy way out you are going to get ripped off. Take your time, do the research, and it will pay off in the end. Scammers prey on uniformed webmasters.

Chances are you are only going to get ripped off once or twice. After that you will be very cautious. Maybe you already have and that is why you are here now.

My best suggestion for you is: don't stop reading. If you are lazy you are going to get ripped off. Read and learn the latest techniques other marketers and webmasters are using. Try them out and see what results you get. Yes, some people on the internet do 2 hours of legitimate work a day and make $50,000 a year. If you want to get there today either you have to be very lucky or work really hard. No $100 e-book is going to do all the work for you.

Update: It is my opinion that you avoid advertising on business.com and other "portals" which have salepeople specifically target you. I have heard many complaints about them on webmaster message boards.

If you want to pay for traffic please try Google, Overture, and Searchfeed. These are legitimate services. You may still need to go through some trial and error to get your traffic to convert. This means bidding on the appropriate keywords and having a converting site design with good copy.
